Southern Peigan School Health & Wellness
School Base

Southern Peigan School Health and Wellness Program (formerly the School Based Health Care Program) was grant funded by the Montana Health Care Foundation during it's initial start up. The goal and intent is to provide health care services to our local youth, K-12 in all the Blackfeet Reservation Schools. Outlined in a Memorandum of Agreement with the participating school districts; target services upon the hire of providers shall include Medical, Mental Health, Nutrition and Dental.

The location of the program is 111 1st Ave. S.W, Browning MT. near the Browning Public School District Administration. We are under the Special Education building in the basement (formerly the Good Medicine Program). Renovation has been done to the building site to accomodate where the services will be provided.

The initial start up, plan of operation and funding sources of the program began with a grant from Montana Health Care Foundation and the Blackfeet Tribe. Future funding will be generated by Third Party Billing and provide for future funding opportunities. Medicaid, Medicare, Private Insurance and self-pay options will be offered and accepted along with a sliding fee scale to private pay individuals. No student will be denied services due to inability to pay.  For students on Medicaid, we bill all services directly and the student/family will have no out-of-pocket expenses.

The Southern Peigan School Health and Wellness Program will work closely with the public schools and personnel to assist and accomodate the children during school hours. The SPSHWP staff will include the following providers: Clinical Coordinator, Family Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Addiction Counselor, Registered Nurse, Dental Hygienist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and/or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Certified Medical Assistant.

We are proud to serve the youth of our Blackfeet Reservation Schools with any and/or all needs within the scope of practice outlined in our policies. Eventually our goal is to expand so we have providers in each location that we will be serving. Health and Wellness are key issues affecting our youth. As a program it will be the goal that we fullfill this obligation to them so they may prevent serious illness, learn to live a healthy lifestyle, and also the explore their rich culture and traditional lifestyle as members of the Blackfeet Tribe
"Looking out for the Health of our Blackfeet Youth provides hope for a better future."
